A young woman points to a place on a map while a young man looks on. They are at an outdoor tabling event about transporatation planning.
Katie Lee, student intern with the campus planning unit of Design and Construction Management, gains feedback from a fellow student about his transportation challenges. Feedback offered by the community helps provide the data needed to secure grant funding for transportation-related improvements.

Moving Forward Together

UC Davis planners are calling on the entire campus community to join Moving Forward Together—a unique opportunity to make your voice heard and drive real change in how we move around campus. Whether you bike, walk, bus, drive, or use electric scooters, your input directly impacts future improvements.

“This is more than just a planning exercise—your feedback is critical to securing the funding we need from both internal and external sources to transform our transportation networks and make UC Davis a safer, more accessible, and sustainable place for everyone,” said Lucas Griffith, executive director, Design and Construction Management's campus planning unit.

“We hope everyone participates in the surveys and outreach events to ensure that the plan reflects the needs and values of our diverse community.”

Previous transportation planning studies have laid the foundation for improvements we’ve seen to our campus bike network. The current initiative goes beyond bikes to address all modes of transportation.

“The transportation landscape is evolving quickly,” said Tinna Madsen, campus planner and urban designer. “We’re seeing more and more people choosing electric bikes and scooters for short trips across campus and the city. As part of this planning effort, we need to understand how to better accommodate these new mobility options while ensuring safety.”

At the heart of Moving Forward Together is a commitment to Vision Zero, a campus initiative that aims to eliminate traffic-related tragedies. A key part of this effort is identifying areas where close calls happen and understanding how to make the campus commutes safer for pedestrians, cyclists, and other vulnerable road users.

“We’re asking everyone to think about where things could be improved—whether we need better bike infrastructure, additional pedestrian crossings, or more intuitive transit routes,” said Jeffrey Bruchez, bicycle program manager, UC Davis Transportation Services.

How You Can Shape the Future: Interactive Maps, Town Halls, and More

The success of this effort depends on our community’s involvement. The feedback you provide through surveys, town hall meetings, and other outreach events will guide UC Davis as it applies for grant funding and develops actionable solutions.

“Engagement is key,” Griffith said. “We need to know what’s working, what’s not. This isn’t just about fixing what’s broken; it’s about creating a transportation system that works for everyone.”

Here’s how you can get involved:
  • Provide Input Online: The Moving Forward Together website features a map where users can add markers to share feedback on what's good, what's challenging, and what could be improved. Other participants can upvote or downvote or offer additional suggestions.

  • Participate in a Town Hall Meeting or Attend a Tabling Event: Discuss specific areas of concern and contribute to the conversation. These are opportunities to make your voice heard and ask questions.
