What's it really like to get around UC Davis?
We asked. You answered.
After more than a year of listening, the draft Moving Forward Together sustainable transportation plan is ready for your review. More than 3,000 students, faculty, staff, and community members shared what it’s really like to get to and around UC Davis—what works, what doesn’t, and where we can do better.
We took that input, paired it with detailed analysis of safety, travel patterns, and infrastructure, and turned it into a draft plan with more than 100 proposed improvements.
Now we’re sharing the results.
Does it reflect what you told us?

Why This Matters
UC Davis is already one of the most bike-friendly campuses in the country. But the way we move is changing—and fast. The campus is growing, travel patterns are shifting, e-assist micromobility is everywhere, and safety matters more than ever. This plan is about keeping up—and staying ahead. It will help guide decisions and investments over the next decade or more and position UC Davis to compete for state and federal funding to actually build these improvements (because yes, having a plan like this matters when you’re asking for money).
And just as important: this is a plan, not a promise. Not every project will happen overnight. Some will move quickly; others will take time, funding, and coordination. But this plan creates a clear path forward—so when opportunities arise, UC Davis is ready to act.
FAQs
- What is Moving Forward Together?
- Moving Forward Together is UC Davis’ sustainable transportation plan for the Davis campus. It brings together more than a year of community input, along with detailed analysis of safety, travel patterns, and infrastructure, to outline a set of more than 100 proposed improvements. The plan is designed to guide transportation decisions, investments, and priorities over the next 10+ years.
- Why is the draft plan being shared now?
- Because we want to make sure we got it right. Thousands of students, faculty, staff, and community members helped shape this plan. Now we’re sharing the draft back to the community to confirm it reflects what we heard—and to identify what may still need refinement before it’s finalized.
- What kinds of changes could result from this effort?
- The feedback we collect could lead to real changes such as expanded bike paths, improved pedestrian walkways, safer intersections, new electric scooter and bike stations, and better transit routes. We’re also focused on aligning our transportation network with our Vision Zero aim of eliminating traffic-related injuries and fatalities, making the campus safer for everyone.
- How can I share feedback?
There are two easy ways to comment during the feedback window (April 21 – May 4, 2026):
Comment directly in the StoryMap via this link in the section about the 100+ potential improvements or review the draft plan and email the project team at [email protected].
Whether it’s a quick reaction or detailed input, all feedback is welcome.
- What kinds of improvements are included in the draft plan?
The draft includes more than 100 proposed infrastructure and programmatic improvements, such as:
• Safer intersections and crossings
• Expanded and better-connected biking and walking routes
• Improvements to transit access and reliability
• Strategies to reduce conflicts between different modes of travel
• Programs and policies to support how people move around campus
Together, these recommendations aim to make getting around UC Davis safer, easier, and more connected.
- Is every project in the plan guaranteed to be built?
- No—but the plan is a critical step toward making them possible. Some projects may move forward quickly, while others will take time, funding, and coordination. Having an adopted plan helps UC Davis prioritize investments and compete for external funding to bring these improvements to life.
- How does this plan support equity and accessibility?
- The plan is informed by a wide range of community input and focuses on improving access, safety, and connectivity for everyone—regardless of how they travel. That includes addressing gaps in the network, improving conditions in high-need areas, and ensuring that walking, biking, rolling, and transit are safe and viable options for all members of the UC Davis community.
Over the past year, we gathered more than 3,000 comments from UC Davis students, faculty, and staff about the campus transportation network. The findings have helped shape the Moving Forward Together Plan. You can explore the summary here. Thank you for your participation!
